Justin Salisbury was just 20 when his mother, who had just bought a guesthouse in Brighton, was injured in a bus accident...forcing him to quit university and step in to help run it. Despite having no hospitality training or experience (and it being rated one of the worse hotels on Trip Advisor), Justin came up with the idea of basing the hotel around art with young artists artistically painting and decorating the rooms. We remember seeing Justin on Chanel 5's 'Hotel Inspector' and even Channel 4's 'Four in a Bed', gathering all the advice and exposure that he could. To this day, art remains at the heart of every Residence, and with sites now in London, Brighton, Cornwall and Oxfordshire, there's a lot of art featured.

Each hotel location is treated slightly differently but as you can see from the images below, which have been taken from all four sites, there is definitely a 'red thread' that connects them all. There is an underlying rustic feel to all the rooms, bars and restaurant so whether there are beams, rustic wall panelling or exposed bricks every room has been 'rusticated' in some way. Add to this a fun colour palette of blues and reds, and sometimes greens and yellows, Artist Residences manage to create light-hearted, playful spaces that embrace eclecticism.
