MID-CENTURY INSPIRATION: A DESIGN CONCEPT

THE BRIEF

A project that captured our imagination - the brief called for a comprehensive mid-century modern renovation that would honour 1960s design while creating sophisticated spaces for contemporary life. Though circumstances meant this project in Guildford didn't move forward, the design concept remains one of our favourites, offering versatility that would work equally well in a loft apartment, period property, or contemporary new build.

OUR SOLUTION

Our design scheme celebrated classic mid-century elements while avoiding pastiche. The carefully curated palette featured rich walnut and teak tones, accented by deep greens, burnt orange and mustard. Geometric patterns and clean lines would have created visual interest throughout, while brass details and authentic vintage pieces were chosen to add character and warmth.

The lighting plan incorporated both architectural and decorative elements - feature pendants and adjustable wall lights would have provided layers of illumination while adding period authenticity. Each room was designed to balance open space with intimate zones, creating a flowing layout typical of mid-century design.

THE RESULT

While this project remains conceptual, it showcases our approach to mid-century modern design - where period details meet contemporary comfort, and authentic materials create timeless spaces. The scheme demonstrates how thoughtful design can honour architectural heritage while meeting modern living needs, proving that mid-century modern style can enhance any space, from urban loft to suburban home.
