250-YEAR-OLD COTTAGE: WHERE HERITAGE MEETS MODERN LIVING
THE BRIEF
A historic thatched cottage needed updating into a comfortable family home. The owners wanted to preserve its 250-year-old character while introducing modern conveniences and contemporary design elements. The focus was on transforming the kitchen and living spaces to suit today's lifestyle.
OUR SOLUTION
The kitchen's transformation merges traditional architecture with modern function. An electric Aga anchors the space, while Shaker-style cabinets in crisp grey and dark green complement the original beamed ceiling. Industrial lighting and ironmongery add contemporary detail to the triple-aspect room, creating an elegant balance between old and new.
In the sitting room, we drew inspiration from private members' clubs to create a refined yet welcoming space. Leather wingback chairs pair with bright throws and copper details, while industrial lighting echoes the kitchen's aesthetic. The traditional inglenook fireplace remains a focal point, now enhanced by contemporary elements.
The living room is a dedicated cinema space, featuring a 5.1 AV system and carefully chosen colours to enhance viewing. At the far end, we created a peaceful reading and music nook, adding versatility to this historic space.
THE RESULT
The result is a home that honours its centuries-old heritage while embracing modern family life.
