REST: FINDING SANCTUARY IN A BUSY WORLD
By Katie Jenson-Hull / The Radiant Nutritionist
“There are two types of tired: one that requires rest, and the other that requires peace.” – Unknown
We live in a busy fast paced modern world that is technology driven.
We are constantly switched on, dialled in, and doing.
However, we need to be doing less not more.
Being all for everyone as well as having it all.
Our catchphrase when people ask how we are is “busy.”
We need to dial down our lives and simplify.
What would life look like if you made a choice to honour rest more? What does “rest” even look like?
This is exactly what I did a few years ago. I choose to prioritise rest. Allocating various forms of rest into my day, my week, and through the seasons. Allowing nature to guide me.
Rest is not simply about putting your feet up or sleeping more. There are different forms of rest. Each form provides us with a form of either mind, body, or soul rest. All equally important.
THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF REST ARE:
Physical – passive, for example sleep and active for example yoga.
Sensory - disconnecting from a busy and noisy world. For example, unplugging from screens and social media.
Emotional - giving yourself space to just be. Be with your emotions and how you are feeling right now. Space to process thoughts and things that are happening in your life.
Spiritual - thinking about what your purpose is in life and thinking and engaging in something bigger than you.
Mental - space for your brain to repair and from constant demands placed on it. Things like regular breaks and journaling are good here.
Creative - allowing time to be inspired and creative. Also, time in nature.
Social - recuperate with the help of others. Connecting, laughing, and engaging.
WHICH FORM OF REST DO YOU NEED RIGHT NOW?
Write a list of everything that makes you feel rested and nourished within these categories.
How often do you do these things? To do more of them, schedule them into your diary. Make an important date with yourself. A date to renew and rejuvenate. Rest in all its forms is crucial if we are to thrive in this modern world.
Lots of love
