MERRICKS GUEST HOUSE / AUSTRALIA
Originally designed by Eckersley Garden Architecture, this timber-clad outbuilding in Victoria, Australia needed a re-design to turn it into a luxury guesthouse, and so Studio Esteta were called in to help. Renowned for their ability to connect the indoors with the outdoors, use of refined colour palettes and bespoke joinery, they were the perfect choice for creating a sophisticated place to stay, entertain and relax. They created new large window openings, to flood the interior with light and maximise views of the surrounding paddocks, the main house's pool and landscaped garden. The total space created includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry room and open plan living, kitchen and dining areas - perfect for a family stay with enough space to enjoy time together.
Their refined palette of colours and textures includes grey marble, black ironwork, crisp white walls, oak floors and joinery, linen bedding and furnishings in navy and charcoal, and bronze hardware in the bathroom. Interestingly, no curtains are used, again to maximise light and views, but a large area rug in the living room softens the space and will dampen echoes. The laser-sharp oak joinery cleverly provides storage, divides rooms and created a soft warmth though-out. This delicate and well-thought-out balance of design creates a pared-back, serene environment where you can imagine all your cares slipping away during a visit.
